چکیده
Background and aim: Iranian studies have mostly measured religiosity or spirituality with a single composite score, leaving the distinct contributions of its components to social health unclear. This study examined the relationship between four dimensions of spirituality and the social health of women pilgrims at the Shahcheragh Shrine in Shiraz and compared the independent contribution of each dimension.
Data and method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2023–2024. Of 400 questionnaires completed face-to-face by women aged 18 and over, 399 valid cases were analyzed. Respondents were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using Parsian and Dunning’s Spirituality Questionnaire and Saffarinia’s 28-item Social Health Questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, separate linear regressions, backward multiple regression, and a simultaneous model with background variables.
Findings: The mean age of the respondents was 36.4 years (range: 18–67). In the separate regressions, all four dimensions of spirituality were positively associated with social health (p < .001). In the final model, self-awareness (β = .305), spiritual needs (β = .230), and spiritual activities (β = .129; p = .006) were retained and jointly explained 36% of the variance in social health (R² = .360). In the controlled model, place of residence was the only significant background variable, whereas age was not significant (p = .684).
Conclusion: In the studied sample, self-awareness, spiritual needs, and spiritual activities account for differences in social health better than the declared importance of spiritual beliefs. These results reflect associations within this sample and do not permit causal inferences.
