Therefore this study assumed that higher the level of the socio-economic development in Iran’s provinces the lower their rates of violent crime. The theories of structural pressures and violence sub-culture were used to explain the research problem. This is a statistical-method research which uses the secondary and formal data. The analysis is conducted at a macro-level and units of analysis are country’s provinces (28 provinces). The study covers the period of 1997 to 2001. The Pearson correlation, the Spearman correlation, and multiple regression analysis were used for testing the hypotheses. Findings of research indicate that there is a positive and relatively weak relationship between the socio-economic development, in its dimensions, and violent crime rates among the provinces, but when each of the components of violent crimes index (homicide, assault, collective disputes) were brought in relation to socio- economic development and its dimensions, it was observed that only murder (that involved 2.2 percent of all violent crimes index) had an opposite relationship with socio- economic development and its dimensions. با توجه به رابطۀ معکوسی که اغلب پیشینة نظری و تجربی خارجی بین توسعه و جرائم خشن نشان داده است،‌این پرسش مطرح شد که‌ایا در‌ایران روند مشابهی وجود داشته است؟ در‌این پژوهش فرض شد که هرچه سطح توسعه‌یافتگی اقتصادی ـ اجتماعی استان‌ها در‌ایران بیشتر باشد، از میزان جرائم خشن کاسته می‌شود.برای تبیین مسئلة تحقیق از نظریه‌های فشار ساختاری و خرده‌فرهنگ خشونت استفاده شده است. روش تحقیق‌این پژوهش روش آماری است که با استفاده از داده‌های ثانویه و رسمی انجام شده است. سطوح تحلیل‌این تحقیق در سطح کلان است و واحد تحلیل استان‌های کشور (28 استان) است. دورة زمانی مورد مطالعه سال‌های 1376 تا 1380 است. برای آزمون فرضیه‌ها از آزمون‌های همبستگی پیرسون، همبستگی اسپیرمن و رگرسیون چندمتغیره استفاده شده است. یافته‌های تحقیق نشان می‌دهد که رابطة مثبت و نسبتاً ضعیفی بین توسعة اقتصادی ـ اجتماعی و ابعاد آن با میزان جرائم خشن در بین استان‌ها وجود دارد، اما زمانی که هرکدام از اجزای تشکیل‌دهندة شاخص جرائم خشن (قتل، ضرب و جرح، نزاع‌های دسته‌جمعی) با توسعة اقتصادی ـ اجتماعی و ابعاد آن در رابطه گذاشته شدند، مشاهده شدکه فقط قتل (که 2/2 درصد از کل شاخص جرائم خشن را در برمی‌گیرد) رابطة معکوسی با توسعة اقتصادی ـ اجتماعی و ابعاد آن دارد. http://www.jss-isa.ir/article_21453_85d6066ab1d290b884a7f171042dc1ca.pdf
